Manchester City Football Academy Footbridge

Flying over Alan Turing Way and Aston New Road this new footbridge creates a link between the Manchester City FC training facility and the main Etihad Stadium. The 4.8 metre wide structure is 140 metres long with a secondary span of 46 metres. The bridge is formed from two fabricated box girders with a stiffened deck plate between them.  The structure was brought to site in sections which were assembled on bespoke temporary works. The trestle support columns were installed and the bridge sections were driven from the assembly area on Self-Propelled Mobile Trailers or SPMT’s. The trailers were fitted with jacking units to enable the bridge decks to be raised to the desired height before being carefully lowered onto the support columns. These activities were carried out during an overnight road closure to minimise the impact on road users and the general public
