Hungate Footbridge, York
SH Structures were responsible for the full design and build of this cable-stayed footbridge, access stairs and ramp. Linking York city centre and the Hungate development with other local retail centres and amenities, the footbridge crosses over the River Foss in sensitive nature conservancy area. The structure features an inclined tapered supporting mast and gently arching main span with stainless steel balustrades and a hardwood timber deck to both the bridge and the access ramp.
The bridge was delivered into York as single span and the majority of the finishing work was carried out away from waterway to minimise the impact on the extensive bird life and other flora and fauna. Opened in September 2011 and well received by local residents, the bridge was the first to be opened in York for ten years.
