The 2012 Olympic Park, London

Architect: Serie Architects
Structural Engineer: Ramboll
Principal Contractor: Olympic Delivery Authority

BMW Showcase Pavilion

As an official sponsor of the 2012 Olympic Games BMW wanted a unique venue for showcasing some of their latest concept vehicles and for corporate hospitality. The 800m2 two storey building features a top deck with platforms that appear to float on a skin of water that pours over the side of the structure before being pumped back onto the roof by a series of recirculating pumps. The steel structure supplied and installed by SH Structures sits on exposed pile foundations and was erected to a very tight programme in the run-up to the opening of the Games. The temporary structure has since been dismantled with the steelwork being recycled and used in the construction of a new facility for a local East London school.
