Partnering & Diversification
Whilst traditionally being a specialist steel
fabricator, S H Structures has identified the
need for a more open flexible approach
to contracting. To this end, the company
has developed close working relationships
with a number of other specialist
companies who provide items such as
tensile fabric, ETFE foil, structural glazing,
GRP and timber. Providing Clients with
an established team of suppliers who have
an understanding of each other’s specialist
discipline and how the various elements
interface gives a level of comfort that a
more disparate group of individual
sub-contractors would not necessarily be
able to provide.
This rational holistic approach has proved
very attractive to our clients and has been
instrumental in our securing a number of
high-profile contracts. One such project is
the recently completed Alnwick Gardens
Pavilion in Northumberland. The scheme,
by Hopkins Architects, has a complex
steel and timber grid shell roof.
S H Structures was able to provide the
Main Contractor, Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd.
with a ‘one-stop-shop’ for both the steel
and timber. The company carried the
initial design development with the client’s
professional team and produced the
working drawings of the various
components for the timber company to
manufacture. These were subsequently
delivered to site and installed by
S H Structures. The completed scheme
was rewarded with a commendation in
the 2006 Wood Awards.
