Chisolm Trail: Abbey Chesterton Bridge Opens

Following a lengthy campaign to provide a new crossing over the River Cam, the Abbey Chesterton Bridge was finally opened to the public just before Christmas. Forming a critical link in the new Chisolm Trail the bridge was finally opened by Jim Chisolm who has campaigned for the bridge to be built since 1998.

The 44m span structure was based upon a Knight Architects concept and designed by Milestone Infrastructure working for client Cambridgeshire County Council and the Greater Cambridge Partnership.

Working for Tarmac Infrastructure, SH Structures supplied and installed the new bridge and a riverside walkway that also forms part the new riverside pedestrian and cycleway.
