A40 Perryn Road Footbridge

This 32 metre span arched footbridge designed by Grimshaw Architects crosses one of London’s busiest arterial roads and was installed by SH Structures during a single road closure. The bridge was fabricated in our facility in North Yorkshire and was delivered to site in one piece allowing installation to be carried out with the minimum of impact on a very constrained and challenging site. The arch is formed from curved circular hollow sections with inclined bracing. The bridge sits on fabricated support columns which were filled with concrete after installation. The location of the bridge supports was critical to the success of the project as the available footprint was very limited due to the extensive network of underground cables and services. The project received a commendation in the 2010 Structural Steel Design Awards.
