SH Structures secure orders for new projects
The past few months have seen the company secure orders for a number of interesting projects, which will provide work through until the end of the year.
The projects include a 2,000m2 glulam grid shell roof for Exeter University with Wilkinson Eyre Architects, work on the restoration of the famous clipper the Cutty Sark in Greenwich, the new National BMX Arena in Manchester and rail works at Rotherham Station.

SH Structures success at 2010 Structural Steel Design Awards
At a ceremony held at the Imperial War Museum in London SH Structures were awarded a Commendation for A40 Perryn Road Footbridge. The scheme was described by the judges as being ‘a high quality scheme in a very constrained and challenging site’ and was a ‘well considered and executed urban design producing a robust yet elegant solution. Working closely with the client’s professional team of Grimshaw Architects, Hyder Consulting (UK) Ltd and main contractor Carillion Civil Engineering made the project one our more satisfying and enjoyable schemes in recent years.

SH Structures gain third party approval for International & European Welding Standards
Following a rigorous review of procedures and an external audit by The Welding Institute, SH Structures have gained accreditation to ISO 3834 pt2
‘Quality Requirements for Welding.’ This certification provides our clients with further evidence of our ability to carry out fabrication work to an approved quality standard.

Two SH Structures projects short listed for 2010 Steel Design Awards
The A40 Perryn Road footbridge in Acton, North London and the M8 Harthill Services footbridge in Scotland were both visited recently by the judging team for this years steel design awards. Despite terrible blizzard conditions during the teams visit to Harthill the team were still able to battle the elements and take a close look at the completed bridge. The weather was a lot kinder during the visit to the A40 and we look forward to the awards function, which takes place later this year at the Imperial War Museum.

SH Structures spend Christmas in Newport Station
As part of the redevelopment of Newport Station a large amount of critical work has been carried out over the Christmas period to minimise the disruption to services and the public using the station

Working through a number of critical track possessions, SH Structures site team successfully carried out several key lifts during Christmas Day and Boxing Day. This included the two main footbridge spans over the existing tracks, which were erected partly clad and glazed. With these elements installed on schedule, work will continue over the coming weeks to complete the new bridges and passenger circulation areas.
